Dates for your diary

calendar (1)

With Twelfth Night almost upon us and we face taking down the tree and decorations, brushing the last of the mince pie crumbs off our chins and bracing ourselves for the first Monday back at school or work, thoughts turn to getting a little bit organised in preparation for the year ahead.

Part of our new year ritual here at hjHQ is the slightly nerdy joy of filling in our new wall calendar with all the dates we’ll need to remember in the coming year. [Thank you Santa, we actually asked for the RSC calendar, not the RAC one, but never mind].  And there are some very important dates we know you’re going to want to save too.

Diaries, calendars, BlackBerrys, phones, tablets, etc at the ready? Here goes…

Sunday 1st February:  Cut-off date for entries [see below for how to enter].

All completed entry forms and ticket allocation cheques must be with us on or before this date. Ticket allocations are issued promptly once entries are confirmed so you can start making money on them as soon as possible!

Sunday 8th March: Scripts submitted

All performance scripts must be submitted on or before this date. For unpublished plays, including devised and improvised work, a working outline including themes/plots, intentions, style/genre must be submitted by this date.

Sunday 29th March:  Our technical day or ‘Tech Sunday’

Each entering company is allocated a 40 minute time-slot where you attend our venue, Swindon’s Arts Centre, to discuss your light and sound requirements with our Technical Manager, walk the stage and meet our Stage Manager and production team. Last year’s trophies are also returned on ‘Tech Sunday’ and those performing unpublished work must submit their final scripts today.

Thursday 9th, Friday 10th and Saturday 11th April: Performance sessions

Performances begin nightly at 7.15pm. We hope to mount an afternoon session on Saturday 11th April, beginning at 1pm. This will be subject to our field of entry.

Plenty of pretty essential dates to note there but the most pressing at the moment is our entry deadline which is 1st February. So, as of today, there are just four weeks left to get your entry forms back to us for hj1act 2015.

For those who have already returned your completed forms and ticket allocation cheques, thank you! Your tickets and further details will be with you very soon.

If you’ve received your entry form but have yet to submit it, please complete and return it to us as soon as possible along with your ticket allocation cheque to secure your place, get selling your tickets and making money for your company! [Read how you can make £90 on your entry HERE].

Not applied yet? Email us at and request your entry pack now!
