RWB Productions play published!

The cast of RWB Productions in “There Just Has To Be a Better Way” at hj1act 2014

As we gear up for our Special Seventieth Anniversary Festival, we bring news of a local group whose play, specially written for hj1act to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of WW1, has been published!  In fact, their company RWB Productions, was specifically formed to enter our festival in order to showcase their new piece of writing.

Founding member of RWB Productions and co-writer of the play Paula Clifford popped in to hjHQ recently to tell us all about their exciting news.

“The one-act drama is about life in the trenches of WW1 for three men who joined as pals and their loved ones back home waiting for their return. The play touches on domestic political struggles, such as the fight for Workers’ and Women’s’ rights, as well as the war itself.

We had firm ideas about how the play should be staged and decided to form our own group to perform the script at Festival. It was amazing to see something you had nurtured come to life. The play was a success. The cast and crew did us proud and to our delight the play won best original production and gained nominations for dramatic achievement, technical endeavour and best actor. It was a great start to the festival experience for RWB Productions.

Last year I decided to try to get the play published. With 2018 looming I realised the content of the play would be perfect for groups wanting to celebrate the anniversary of the end of WW1. I sent a copy of the script for perusal to Cressrelles, one of the largest groups of play publishers in the UK

I was rewarded by Cressrelles Sales Director, Simon Smith, telling me that our play had been selected for publishing! The next few months were taken up with checking the script, signing contracts and viewing the proposed jacket cover.

Perusal copies were sent by Cressrelles to the Drama Association of Wales (DAW), the Scottish Drama Association (SCDA), the  Drama League of Ireland and The play will be published officially on April 21st. in the meantime it was very exciting to receive a copy of the play in its final format and to log onto to find Derek Clifford under the list of playwrights!”

Thanks for bringing us that fantastic news Paula!  If anyone has a play they would like to get published, contact Cresselles HERE.
